About Us
We're Nick and Sara, a husband-and-wife team based in North Carolina and we've loved hummingbirds for as long as we can remember. Since our hummingbird obsession began, we've progressively become fed up with most commercially available hummingbird feeders. After enough frustration with companies that clearly do not care for the birds, their health, or the quality of their product we decided to start a small manufacturing company to build high quality birding products.
Like a lot of people, we started with cheap feeders from big box stores. We loved watching the birds! We did not love scrubbing mold out flower ports, watching the rubber disintegrate and fade in the sun, and eventually have to throw the whole thing away because parts weren't available. For years we've thought that someone has to make a better feeder. Eventually, we decided that someone should be us.
The big turning point for us was when we visited Sara's home country, Colombia, we went to a place called Casa De Los Colibries - which translates to "House of the Hummingbirds". Being able to hand feed dozens of hummingbirds, and see so many unique species that aren't in the United States was beyond transcendent. On our flight back home, we were convinced that we needed to share our love for hummingbirds with as many other people as possible.
What We Build
Sugar Station feeders are designed to be an extremely durable hummingbird magnet. We have tested our feeders in both the United States and Antioquia Colombia. In our tests humming birds were very quickly drawn to the Sugar Station. Our feeder is unique in that if you are patient enough, not only does our feeder hang by default, but you can remove vials and use them to hand feed hummingbirds!
Our patent-pending design uses 5 glass vials that snap securely into place. This ensures that the only thing nectar touches is the glass vial and the feeding port, which makes cleaning significantly easier! When it's time to change the nectar, you pop the vials out, wash them, refill them, and snap them back in. If you have extra vials on standby in the refrigerator, refills are even quicker!
Made in North Carolina
We design, prototype, and manufacture almost everything ourselves, in-house, in North Carolina. Every feeder passes through our hands before it reaches yours. We're a small operation and plan to continue expanding our line of high quality birding accessories.
The glass is currently manufactured in California as that's a bit beyond our current capabilities as a small scale manufacturer. As we grow, we plan to move the manufacturing of all components in-house to ensure we control every facet of our business and our products quality.
Giving You The Right to Repair
We believe that when something breaks, you should be able to fix it and source parts, not have to throw it away and buy a new one. Every component of a Sugar Station feeder is available as a spare part, and the feeder is designed to be modular so that repairs are easy. We want to do our part and give you the opportunity to reduce waste by fixing things instead of throwing them away. Your feeder should outlast the season, and the one after that, and the one after that.
